Candle care and safety

At Honey Willow, we understand the joy of lighting a new candle and experiencing its warmth and fragrance for the first time. However, to ensure a safe and long life for your candle, there are a few important steps you should take. With the right timing and location, you can give your candles their longest and most fragrant life.

Basic candle care:

  • Trim the wick to 5mm in length before each use. This ensures a cleaner, safer burn and helps extend the life of your candle.
  • Keep a lit candle within sight, away from children, pets, and anything flammable.
  • Never leave a candle unattended or move it while lit or before the wax has solidified.
  • Our eco-resin vessels may become hot when lit, so place your candle on a flat and heat-resistant surface, away from drafty areas, air ducts, fans, or open windows.
  • Additionally, make sure the flame does not come into contact with the side of the glass when burning.

Maintenance:

  • Allow your candle to melt completely to the side of the glass during its first burn to set the candle memory.
  • Keep an eye on your candle to ensure the wick remains upright and trimmed to 5mm while lit and prior to relighting.
  • Burn your Honey Willow eco-resin candle for no more than 3 hours at a time, and use a candle snuffer or blow gently on the flame to extinguish it.
  • Do not use water or a lid to extinguish your candle, and never introduce liquids or foreign objects into your candle.

Safety:

  • After the wax has solidified, cover your candle with its lid to prevent the build-up of dust.
  • If you notice soot on your candle, extinguish the candle and clean the jar with a dry paper towel once it has completely cooled.
  • If your eco-resin vessel is cracked, chipped, or broken, discontinue use immediately. Although our eco-resin vessels are handcrafted for design and durability, care must be taken to avoid damage.
  • The total burn time for your candle will vary due to environmental conditions and burning habits.
  • It's time to discontinue use of your vessel when there is 10mm of unmelted wax at the bottom of the vessel.
  • Finally, when your eco-resin vessel is finished, clean it out by following these instructions, and you're ready to reuse your candle vessel with one of our refills! At Honey Willow, we offer a range of candle refills to help you enjoy your candle for even longer.
